I Spy Schuchard

Alex Schuchard "Untitled", 2011 on view now at the Hampton Designer Showhouse

Seen above: a painting hangs above a vintage bar cart.  The 4′ x 4′ painting, currently on view at the Hampton Designer Showhouse, is the work of one of our truly all-time favorite artists, Alex Schuchard.  In May, we had the pleasure of attending Alex’s gallery opening (must check out: Space B Gallery in TriBeCa), where were able to view many of his recent works on display in one space. Needless to say, we had a difficult time narrowing down our favorites that night.   Alex’s work strikes the perfect between abstract and landscape, fantasy and reality. Many of his pieces start from an image of water, or a mountain creek, or a tree.  Without fail, Alex takes these traditional landscape subjects and transforms them into something greater.

Large or small scale, Alex’s work will complete a room, or create a moment in a small vignette. We can’t get enough and we use whenever we can in our own interiors!

Alex Schuchard painting rests on a New Traditionalists desk, TF Design on a Dime vignette, 2011

Alex was incredibly generous and donated a painting to our Design on a Dime vignette last May. The painting barely made it 30 minutes in the vignette before it was snatched up by a very lucky shopper!  Check out more of our Schuchard favorites below, or all of his work via Tumblr (you’ll see how difficult it is to narrow your favorites!) Follow him and his gallery on facebook for updates!

"Untitled - Green Water", 16" x 20", Alex Schuchard

"Untitled - Diagonal Water", 10" x 10", Alex Schuchard

"Untitled-Clouds", 12" x 12", Alex Schuchard

"Untitled - Limbs", 30" x 36", Alex Schuchard

"Untitled - Colorado", 12" x 12", Alex Schuchard (our pick for Design on a Dime!)

*Universal Art Disclaimer: all of these paintings look infinitely more incredible in person (each piece has a hand-applied wax surface that will never be properly conveyed on your screen).  We highly recommend checking him out next time you’re in NYC / TriBeCa or at the Showhouse this month!
